The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering the competitive scene anytime soon. In a recent interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, Chris Brown, the Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, stated that while they are continually assessing various titles for inclusion in the competitive circuit, Pokémon TCG Pocket is not on the immediate agenda. Brown humorously referenced the April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokémon Sleep Champion Tournament, but emphasized that there are currently no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the competitive scene.
No Plans For Competitive Pocket
The Pokémon Company is always on the lookout for new additions to its competitive lineup, but Pokémon TCG Pocket remains off the competitive radar for now. This decision reflects the company's cautious approach to integrating new games into their established competitive ecosystem.
Too Early And Unbalanced
While no official reasons have been provided for the exclusion of Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, the community has speculated on several possibilities. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its early stages with only two sets released so far. Although the app includes competitive features from the start, players have voiced concerns about ongoing balancing issues. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a more accessible, simplified version of the traditional Pokémon card game, prioritizing a beginner-friendly experience over a competitive environment.
Despite Pokémon TCG Pocket's absence from the competitive circuit, The Pokémon Company continues to offer a robust lineup of events for other titles, including Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite. These games will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025, held in Anaheim, California.
