Pokémon GO Adds Morpeko and More, Hints at Dynamax and Gigantamax Coming to Game

Get ready for significant changes in Pokémon GO! Developer Niantic has hinted at the introduction of Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, features originally seen in Pokémon Sword and Shield. This exciting news follows the confirmation of Morpeko's arrival, a Pokémon known for its form-changing abilities.

Galar Region Focus?

The addition of Morpeko, and Niantic's announcement of "big changes, big battles, and…big Pokémon" for the upcoming season, strongly suggests the arrival of Dynamax and Gigantamax. These mechanics, unique to the Galar region, allow Pokémon to dramatically increase in size and power. Niantic stated: "Coming soon: Morpeko will charge into Pokémon GO, changing the way you battle! Certain Pokémon—like Morpeko—will be able to change form in battle by using a Charged Attack, unleashing new possibilities for you and your battle team."

While specifics remain under wraps, the new season, starting in September, promises substantial gameplay alterations. Speculation abounds regarding the potential addition of other Galar Pokémon like Mimikyu and Aegislash. The implementation of Dynamax/Gigantamax in Pokémon GO remains unclear; whether Power Spots (as seen in Sword and Shield) will be utilized is yet to be revealed.
