Author : Nicholas May 20,2025

The PlayStation Portal, despite never having been discounted when new, is now available at a reduced price when purchased used. Amazon Resale, formerly known as Amazon Warehouse, currently offers the PlayStation Portal in "Used: Like New" condition for just $149.88, including shipping. This represents a significant 25% savings off the original retail price of $199. While the inclusion of a Sony warranty is uncertain, Amazon Resale items are covered by the same 30-day return policy as new purchases. Given the popularity of this deal, stock is expected to deplete rapidly.

The item looks and functions as if it were brand new, with only moderate packing damage noted during inspection.

The PlayStation Portal, designed as a handheld gaming accessory for the PS5, resembles an elongated split-pad DualSense controller with an 8-inch 1080p LCD screen integrated into its center. It transforms your PS5 into a portable gaming device, allowing you to stream games at up to 60fps. The controller incorporates all the features of the DualSense, such as haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a touchscreen interface in place of the traditional touchpad. The Portal supports streaming games outside your home, provided you have access to a very stable and fast internet connection. However, it is essential to remember that the PS Portal is not a standalone device; it requires a PS5 to operate.

A recent update has significantly expanded the functionality of the PS Portal. You no longer need a PS5 to play games on it. Sony has introduced a feature enabling Portal owners to stream games directly from the PlayStation Now cloud streaming service, eliminating the need for a PS5. Users can connect the Portal either to their PS5 or directly to Sony's cloud servers. This new capability, enhanced by quality-of-life beta updates launched in April, grants access to over 120 games, including titles like Ghost of Tsushima, Resident Evil 3 Remake, The Last of Us Part 1 Remastered, and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. To utilize this feature, you must subscribe to the highest tier of PlayStation Plus, which costs $18 per month, a more appealing option than purchasing a PS5 and additional games.

It's worth noting that the PlayStation Portal isn't the only method for streaming PS5 games over Wi-Fi at home. The PS Remote Play app can be downloaded on various mobile devices, including other gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck. However, setting this up is more complex, and you'll miss out on some of the DualSense's unique features.

PlayStation Portal Review by Seth Macy

"The PlayStation Portal has defied my initial skepticism, turning out to be a device I've come to love. It offers a vastly superior experience compared to using a phone with a makeshift controller, and it performs much better than I expected. The freedom to play my PS5 from anywhere with decent WiFi coverage is a game-changer, especially in a household where the TV is often occupied by others playing the Switch. While it's not a standalone device and requires a PS5 to function, its main drawbacks are the inability to access WiFi networks that require a web browser login and the lack of Bluetooth audio support. Despite these limitations, the Portal is an excellent solution for PlayStation Remote Play. Without those issues, it would be an essential purchase for any PS5 owner who enjoys handheld gaming or needs to share the household TV."
