Osmos is back on Google Play with a brand-new port after a brief absence

Author : Thomas Feb 24,2025

Osmos, the acclaimed cell-absorbing puzzle game, returns to Android! Previously removed due to playability issues stemming from outdated porting technology, it's back with a completely revamped port from developer Hemisphere Games.

For those unfamiliar, Osmos is a unique, award-winning physics-based puzzle where players absorb smaller organisms while evading larger ones. Its simple yet engaging gameplay made it a hit, but Android users have been unable to enjoy it until now.

Originally released in 2010, this new version is optimized for modern Android operating systems. Hemisphere Games explains in a blog post that the original Android port, developed with Apportable, became unmaintainable after Apportable's closure. This led to Osmos' removal from the Google Play Store due to incompatibility with current devices. The new port addresses these issues, offering a fully playable experience.
