Nintendo is gearing up to combat potential shortages and scalpers at the launch of the Switch 2, stating that they are "making preparations." Following the release of their latest financial results, President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed concerns about a repeat of the Switch's 2017 launch shortages. He assured Nikkei that Nintendo will utilize its accumulated experience to mitigate issues related to scalping and supply constraints.

These preparations likely involve significantly increasing Switch 2 production. Last year, Nintendo emphasized sufficient manufacturing to meet demand as the primary defense against scalpers. The original Switch launch in March 2017 suffered from supply constraints, driving up prices due to scalping. However, Furukawa stated that the Switch 2 launch will be different, reiterating the importance of meeting consumer demand to combat this issue. He also mentioned exploring additional countermeasures within legal and regulatory boundaries, considering regional differences. He noted that the semiconductor shortages that hampered Switch production in previous years have now been resolved.

A Switch 2 Direct is planned for April 2nd, promising further details. Nintendo will also host hands-on events in various cities globally.

In a statement on February 4th, 2025, Furukawa addressed the recent decline in Switch sales, dismissing the notion that it's due to consumers waiting for the Switch 2. He maintained that while sales haven't reached their target, the Switch is still performing strongly in its eighth year.

Nintendo intends to continue supporting the original Switch even after the Switch 2 launch, as long as demand persists. Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond are both slated for 2025 release on the original Switch.
