Netflix Stories Cancelled, Still Playable!

Netflix has officially announced the closure of its interactive fiction games under the Netflix Stories banner, marking the end of a brief foray into narrative gaming. This decision may come as a surprise to many, considering the solid player base that these games had garnered. So, why did Netflix decide to pull the plug on Netflix Stories? Let's dive into the details!

The cancellation was first reported by Variety and is part of a larger strategic pivot at Netflix Games. The company is now shifting its focus to mobile titles, including party games, games for kids, mainstream releases, and other interactive experiences that can be enjoyed on TV screens.

Despite the end of Netflix Stories, Boss Fight Entertainment, the studio behind the series, will continue to work on other projects, including the highly anticipated Squid Game: Unleashed.

Is Netflix Stories Shutting Down?

Even with some criticism, Netflix Stories consistently ranked among the top-played games on the Netflix platform. Recent reports indicate that it holds the fourth spot in the Netflix Games top 10 carousel, which ranks games based on playtime rather than downloads.

Looking ahead, the final interactive title under the Netflix Stories banner will be Love Is Blind: NYC. Once its rollout is complete, no new games will be developed under this label. This announcement follows closely on the heels of the Netflix Stories app teasing its next release, The Love Contract, which was set to launch on April 8th. Unlike previous titles, The Love Contract was not based on any existing Netflix IP but was an original story about an actress navigating a romantic entanglement between a Hollywood star and a billionaire amidst fame, scandal, and fake dating. Unfortunately, this game has now been scrapped.

While no new games will be developed, the existing Netflix Stories titles will remain available for players to enjoy. Games such as Love Is Blind, Emily in Paris, Money Heist, Love Is Blind: Winter’s Kiss, Perfect Match, Sex Education, Selling Sunset, Sweet Magnolias, Virgin River, and The Perfect Couple will continue to be playable. However, planned sequels for Outer Banks and Ginny & Georgia have been cancelled.
