Assassin's Creed Shadows Max Level: What to Know

Author : Dylan Oct 10,2025

Assassin's Creed Shadows represents one of the franchise's most expansive titles to date, featuring a sophisticated progression system tailored to its grand scale. Here's everything you need to know about maximum levels and the leveling mechanics in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin's Creed Shadows?

The progression system in Assassin's Creed Shadows has been reimagined. While skill acquisition primarily depends on the new Knowledge Rank system (more details below), traditional XP-based leveling remains crucial. Advancing your XP unlocks high-tier weapons, armor, and gear while enhancing Naoe and Yasuke's core attributes.

Although players only need to reach Level 35 to access all Japanese provinces in the game's map, the XP grind extends well beyond that. Initial information from Ubisoft suggested a Level 40 cap, but players can actually progress up to Level 60. Additionally, this cap is expected to increase further with the post-launch Claws of Awaji expansion for Assassin's Creed Shadows.

The Knowledge Rank system is a major progression overhaul in Assassin's Creed Shadows, operating independently from XP leveling. Players earn Knowledge Points by engaging in various open-world activities centered around mindfulness and training. Advancing through Knowledge Ranks unlocks new skills for Naoe and Yasuke, though players must still spend Mastery Points to acquire these abilities.

To access every skill, players must achieve Knowledge Rank 6. However, this milestone isn't the endpoint - instead, it unlocks an additional Knowledge tree featuring passive skills that enable deeper character customization based on preferred playstyles.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin's Creed Shadows?

Mastery serves as the third pillar of progression, functioning similarly to skill points. These must be invested to unlock abilities across six distinct Mastery trees for each protagonist. While some skills demand higher Mastery investments than others, points are plentiful through diverse in-game activities.

The game features an extensive array of skills, but generous Mastery Point rewards ensure players can eventually unlock everything. Though technically finite, reaching a Mastery Point limit would require exhaustive completion of activities. The upcoming Claws of Awaji expansion will likely introduce fresh ways to earn Mastery when it launches later in 2025.

Does Assassin's Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

Each Japanese province in Assassin's Creed Shadows has an associated level requirement, with Kii representing the highest initial requirement at Level 35. As players advance their XP level, certain regions dynamically scale to maintain challenge.

However, late-game scaling features a floor effect beyond Level 40. From Level 42 onward, province difficulties stabilize at two levels below the player's current XP level. This design ensures endgame combat remains engaging while still rewarding dedicated players who invest significant time.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
