Mattel163 is taking a commendable step towards inclusivity with an exciting update aimed at making popular card games more accessible to everyone. They're introducing colorblind-friendly decks for UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile through a new feature called Beyond Colors.
What Is Beyond Colors?
This update is a thoughtful enhancement for the approximately 300 million people worldwide who experience color blindness. By replacing traditional card colors with distinct shapes such as squares and triangles, all players can now easily distinguish between different cards.
Activating the Beyond Colors feature in Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile is simple. Just tap on your avatar in the game, head to your account settings, and enable the Beyond Colors deck under the card theme options.
For the development of Beyond Colors, Mattel163 collaborated with gamers who have color blindness to ensure the effectiveness and user-friendliness of the new symbols. This initiative aligns with Mattel’s broader commitment to accessibility, with a goal to make 80% of their games colorblind accessible by 2025.
In creating this update, Mattel163 worked alongside experts in color vision deficiency and the global gaming community to develop solutions such as patterns, tactile clues, and symbols. These efforts ensure that color is not the sole method for distinguishing cards.
The shapes used in Beyond Colors are consistent across Phase 10: World Tour, Skip-Bo Mobile, and UNO! Mobile, making it easier for players to adapt once they learn the system in one game. You can explore these games on the Google Play Store: UNO! Mobile, Phase 10: World Tour, and Skip-Bo Mobile.
