The excitement surrounding the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie continues to grow, and one of the most intriguing casting choices has been revealed by none other than Tingle's creator, Takaya Imamura. With many fans curious about who will bring the iconic characters to life, Imamura has shared his dream pick for the quirky and beloved character, Tingle.
Don’t Worry; It’s Not Jason Momoa Nor Jack Black
As speculation swirls around who will play Link and Princess Zelda, another question has been on fans' minds: Will Tingle, the balloon-loving enthusiast, make an appearance? And if so, who could possibly fill his green tights? In a recent interview with VGC, Imamura disclosed his ideal casting choice.
"Masi Oka," Imamura stated. "You know the TV series Heroes? The Japanese character who goes ‘yatta!’, I’d like him to do it."
Masi Oka, renowned for his role as Hiro Nakamura in Heroes and its sequel Heroes Reborn, has showcased his versatility in numerous projects. From action-packed films like Bullet Train and The Meg to the acclaimed Hawaii Five-O reboot, Oka's comedic flair and energetic performance make him a fitting choice for Tingle. His iconic "yatta!" pose from Heroes even mirrors Tingle's distinctive poses in various artworks.
While it remains uncertain whether director Wes Ball will heed Imamura's suggestion or even include Tingle in the film, the project's described tone as a "live-action Miyazaki" film offers hope. Tingle's whimsical nature could certainly fit within the enchanting world inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's works.
Announced in November 2023, the Legend of Zelda live-action movie is being directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad. In March 2024, Ball expressed his commitment to the project, saying, "I want to fulfill people’s greatest desires. I know it’s important, this [Zelda] franchise, to people and I want it to be a serious movie."
