Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars comic series in May 2025. This new series, following the Battle of Jakku and the conclusion of the Galactic Civil War, will depict Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa's efforts to establish the New Republic and restore order to a galaxy still reeling from conflict.
Alex Segura, author of the Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, pens this latest installment. Veteran Star Wars illustrator Phil Noto (Star Wars: Poe Dameron) brings the story to life, with Noto and Leinil Yu contributing cover art for the debut issue.
Set approximately two years after Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series unfolds in a hopeful yet precarious era. The New Republic strives for galactic dominance, but faces emerging threats from opportunistic pirates, criminals, and other antagonists exploiting the power vacuum.
"Having concluded the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can now propel the narrative into a fresh, uncharted era," Segura stated to StarWars.com. "This will involve new galactic threats, adversaries, and mysteries for our heroes to confront, blending familiar elements with the unexpected. These stories will be action-packed, featuring character moments fans expect, while offering fresh perspectives on the galaxy. Our aim is to ensure accessibility for new readers, making each issue a satisfying entry point."
Noto added, "Alex has crafted incredible storylines and characters, and I'm excited to bring them to the page! It's also been rewarding to depict the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era, as there are no existing film or TV counterparts. I get to create their new looks while referencing the actors from the 80s to maintain the feel of this timeline."
Star Wars #1 launches May 7, 2025, coinciding with Star Wars Day celebrations.
