Marvel Rivals, the acclaimed hero shooter, is a major hit on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. However, NetEase, the developer, has previously ruled out a Nintendo Switch release due to performance limitations. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?
Recently, at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we spoke with Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu. He revealed that a Switch 2 port is a definite possibility. Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. If we can achieve great performance on the Switch 2, we're open to releasing the game. The original Switch couldn't deliver the optimal gameplay experience; however, if the Switch 2 can meet that standard, we're definitely interested."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month. While specifics are still limited, it's expected to be a more powerful console with enhanced capabilities. Interestingly, rumors suggest mouse-like controller functionality, potentially bridging the gap between console and PC shooter controls. The exact implementation remains to be seen.
The Nintendo Switch 2 lacks a confirmed release date, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2nd. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms, and we highly recommend it. Our 8/10 review praised the game for its strong position within the hero shooter genre, stating it "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21st.
