The box office underperformer M3GAN 2.0 becomes available digitally today, July 15, following a brief three-week theatrical run. This release coincides with reports of staff reductions at Blumhouse Productions.

During its opening weekend, M3GAN 2.0 grossed $10.2 million domestically and $6.958 million internationally, significantly underperforming compared to the original 2022 film's eventual $180 million global success.

IGN's review of M3GAN 2.0 scored it 6/10, noting: "The sequel transitions from horror to sci-fi/action with uneven results, though M3GAN's sharp wit and dynamic combat sequences remain the standout features."

The character's official social media account announced the digital release with typical sass: "They said this version of me was too much for theaters. Interpret that as you will." The digital release precedes a physical media launch scheduled for September 23.

According to Box Office Mojo, M3GAN 2.0 has accumulated just $36,496,600 worldwide ($22,446,600 domestic/$14,050,000 international) during its theatrical window.

In related news, Deadline reports Blumhouse has implemented workforce reductions affecting six employees across film, television, and casting departments. The affected positions were reportedly junior-level roles unrelated to the M3GAN 2.0 production team.

Blumhouse founder Jason Blum recently addressed the sequel's disappointing performance on The Town podcast, acknowledging strategic missteps: "We fundamentally miscalculated audience expectations. The creative decision to shift genres clearly didn't resonate with viewers who wanted more of what made the original successful."

The production company faces increased scrutiny as it prepares for December's release of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, its next major franchise installment.
