Upon participating in the Elden Ring: Nightreign network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won found the experience invigorating and is now considering new concepts for future endeavors. In an interview with Eurogamer during the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi discussed the evolution of the Souls-like genre. His long-standing appreciation for FromSoftware's work is clearly reflected in the final design of Lies of P.

Sharing his perspective on the upcoming Elden Ring title, Choi remarked, "I had the chance to try [Nightreign], and it felt incredibly fresh and innovative. This certainly reinforced my belief that they are skilled developers who consistently challenge their own creative limits, and that dedication is evident. For some reason, this experience motivated me to ensure the Overture expansion is as polished as possible."

This has led him to express openness toward multiplayer game development. Choi stated, "Regarding our future projects, we are absolutely willing to explore all kinds of opportunities moving forward."

Despite his fandom for FromSoftware games, he firmly clarified that his inspiration does not come from a single source. In a discussion with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he elaborated, "I enjoy a wide array of games, and the multitude of experiences and ideas I gather from various titles I love are synthesized into the unique Lies of P experience. Ultimately, it's a fusion of diverse inspirations drawn from many beloved games, which I then reinterpret into the Lies of P experience I'm crafting for its dedicated community."

Overture Playtime Estimated at 15-20 Hours for Veterans

Choi shared that the Overture DLC will likely take experienced players between 15 to 20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and content the team originally wanted to include at launch. He explained, "Overture is intricately linked to the base game, with many connections between them. Developing this expansion was akin to finishing the complete Lies of P journey, which presented its own set of challenges."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to the final, chilling days of Krat, following the path of a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new concepts, feedback from players, and unused ideas that couldn't be implemented initially due to time and resource limitations. Choi described this release as a Director's Cut, giving it the feel of the game's concluding chapter.

He added, "At the base game's launch, we had to prioritize to ensure the highest quality, meaning we couldn't include everything at once. We focused on delivering the best possible experience with what we had." Choi highlighted the strong community support following the original release, which inspired the team to incorporate all their desired elements into the expansion.

Overture's Story is Separate from the Base Game's Finale

During an IGN interview at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi confirmed that the upcoming DLC does not directly tie into the base game's concluding scenes. Without spoilers, the original ending offered clues about the potential future direction of the Lies of P universe by developer NEOWIZ.

Choi had previously announced a sequel for Lies of P in a Director's Letter video from November 2023, suggesting that the final cutscene might be relevant to the next installment. However, the development team has remained secretive about any details concerning Lies of P 2.

"I can assure you that when we are prepared to share news or media, we will make it clear. This aligns with our unwavering commitment to quality, despite the pressures we've discussed before. That is my promise: when we finally reveal that content and information, we will be completely ready," Choi stated.

He recommended that players revisit the original game, as it contains numerous hints about the DLC's content. Choi also mentioned that he has been following fan theories online and noted that some have come remarkably close to the mark.

Lies of P: Overture is scheduled for a Summer 2025 release, though a precise date has not been set. The expansion will be accessible on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For the most current news on the game, refer to our article below!
