The news was shared by Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, during an exciting reveal at CinemaCon. The 60-year-old Keanu Reeves is set to reprise his iconic role as the titular assassin, continuing his thrilling journey in the franchise.
The production team is already in motion, with Thunder Road's Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee returning as producers, alongside franchise director and producer Chad Stahelski. Keanu Reeves, who also serves as a producer, is fully on board for this next chapter. Although no specific release window has been announced, anticipation is high following the massive success of John Wick: Chapter 4, which grossed over $440 million worldwide.
The decision to greenlight another installment in the mainline series seems justified, especially given that each of the first four films has successfully outperformed its predecessor at the box office. However, the announcement raises questions about the narrative direction, particularly in light of the conclusive ending of John Wick: Chapter 4.
