Author : George Apr 24,2025

Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to make a thrilling transition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with his portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, a beloved comic character since his debut in Omega Men #3 in 1983, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, is an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia. As the last survivor of his planet, much like Superman, Lobo possesses superhuman strength and immortality, bringing a unique edge to the DCU.

Momoa has expressed immense excitement about taking on the role of Lobo, citing the character as his favorite from the comics. He has drawn parallels between himself and Lobo, hinting at aesthetic similarities that he believes will resonate well with fans. In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Momoa teased fans with a glimpse into what to expect from Lobo's appearance in "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." He described the role as a dream come true, emphasizing the challenge and thrill of bringing such a rough and gruff character to life. Momoa also hinted at the authenticity of his portrayal, mentioning that they've nailed the character's look and even praised the iconic bike.

From Aquaman to Lobo, Jason Momoa is crossing DC universes.

While "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is primarily focused on Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock, Momoa's Lobo will make a notable, albeit brief, appearance. He clarified that the film belongs to Supergirl, and his role is more of a cameo, saying, "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit."

The movie, heavily inspired by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira, follows the story of an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, portrayed by Eve Ridley, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, played by Matthias Schoenaerts. The cast is rounded out by David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Supergirl's father, and Emily Beecham as her mother.

"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" marks the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's "Superman" set to hit theaters this summer, with a subsequent "Clayface" movie scheduled for September 2026. Fans eager for more can keep an eye on updates from DC co-chief James Gunn, who recently shared the first look at Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, signaling the start of production.
