Jack Quaid Eyes Bioshock Role Amid Max Payne Comparisons in Novocaine

Jack Quaid, best known for his role in *The Boys*, has openly expressed his desire to star in a live-action *BioShock* movie, calling the iconic first-person shooter one of his all-time favorite video games. During a Reddit AMA session timed with the release of his new film *Novocaine*, Quaid praised the deep narrative and expansive lore of *BioShock*, suggesting it holds immense potential for either a film or television adaptation.

“I would actually love to be in a live action adaptation of BioShock — one of my favorite games of all time,” Quaid said. “I think there's such a rich lore to that game that could be explored in a TV or movie adaptation.”

While fan enthusiasm for a *BioShock* movie remains high, the project has faced behind-the-scenes turbulence. Producer Roy Lee revealed last year that following leadership changes and budget cuts from Netflix, the film had been reimagined as a more intimate, character-driven story. Originally intended as a large-scale production, the new version will reportedly take a smaller, more personal approach. Despite these changes, acclaimed director Francis Lawrence — known for his work on *The Hunger Games* series — remains attached to helm the project.

Roy Lee also noted that Netflix’s involvement led to tighter financial constraints, forcing the creative team to scale back their ambitions. Specifics about the film’s storyline remain under wraps, so it's unclear how much the current vision differs from its original concept.

Quaid’s remarks about *BioShock* came alongside an amusing observation from fans: he bears a striking resemblance to Max Payne, the brooding protagonist of Remedy Entertainment’s classic action title. Interestingly, Max Payne’s visual design was modeled after Remedy writer Sam Lake — who, like Quaid, has a lean build and intense gaze. Some scenes from *Novocaine* have even sparked comparisons to a live-action *Max Payne* film.

Despite the uncanny likeness, Quaid admitted he hasn’t yet played the *Max Payne* games — though he acknowledged the resemblance upon seeing promotional art. He did express interest in playing through the title soon, especially given Rockstar’s ongoing efforts to remake the original game in collaboration with Remedy and rights holder Grove Street Games.

“I've seen people say that I look like Max Payne, and when I've looked at the box art, even I did a double-take,” Quaid added. “I love Rockstar's games, but unfortunately I've never played that one — it's next on the list, for sure.”

Beyond *BioShock* and *Max Payne*, Quaid has developed a strong appreciation for FromSoftware titles. In the same Reddit AMA, he shared how he’s worked his way through some of the studio’s most challenging games, including *Bloodborne*, *Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice*, and now *Elden Ring*. His journey into the notoriously difficult world of Souls-like gameplay has made him a self-proclaimed “video game nerd.”

“I'm a huge video game nerd,” Quaid said. “And lately I've been diving headfirst into the FromSoftware library. I beat Bloodborne, then I beat Sekiro, and now I'm going full boar into Elden Ring. Actually, the thing I use Reddit the most for is tips and tricks on beating Fromsoft's bosses. I love how challenging the games are — it took me a while to get into them, but now I'm obsessed.”
