In the highly anticipated game, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, developer MachineGames has made a compassionate choice that resonates with fans and animal lovers alike. Read on to discover more about this decision and other exciting details about the game.
No Dogs Will Be Harmed in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
In recent years, video games have often included scenes of violence against animals, from the Nazi dogs in Wolfenstein to the rabid wolves in Resident Evil 4. However, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes a different, more humane approach.
"Indiana Jones is a dog person," MachineGames Creative Director Jens Andersson stated in an interview with IGN. Despite the gritty and intense nature of Indiana Jones' adventures, the developers have chosen a path where Indy can engage in combat with human enemies but will not harm dogs. This decision marks a significant departure from their previous titles, such as Wolfenstein, where animal combat was part of the gameplay.
"It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways," Andersson explained. "How do we do that well? Well, these are the kind of things that we do. We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away."
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is slated for release on December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a tentative release date of Spring 2025 for the PS5. Set in 1937, between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, the story follows Indy as he tracks stolen artifacts from Marshall College. His journey takes him from the Vatican to the Egyptian pyramids and even to the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's iconic whip serves not only as a tool for traversal but also as a weapon to disarm and combat enemies as he navigates through open-world-inspired maps. And for those who cherish our four-legged friends, rest assured—based on the developers' comments, no dogs will face the wrath of Indy's whip during this adventure.
