Author : Claire May 14,2025

George R.R. Martin recently shared an exciting update on his blog, but it wasn't about the much-anticipated *The Winds of Winter*. Instead, he unveiled the cover for the next illustrated edition of the *A Song of Ice and Fire* series: *A Feast for Crows*. This marks the fourth book in the series to receive such special treatment, with stunning artwork by Jeffrey R. McDonald. The illustrated edition of *A Feast for Crows* is set to hit the shelves on November 4, 2025, and you can already preorder it from top retailers like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Target.

This news is particularly thrilling for collectors of the illustrated editions. The last such release was A Storm of Swords back in November 2020, making it five years since fans have seen a new illustrated edition. The upcoming edition of A Feast for Crows will also include a foreword by Joe Abercrombie. Martin mentioned that some of the interior illustrations will be shared later this spring, building anticipation for the book's release. For those new to collecting the series, the first three illustrated editions are already available.

What About The Winds of Winter?

For those eagerly awaiting The Winds of Winter, the wait may continue for some time. In a December 2024 interview, Martin hinted that he might not complete the book in his lifetime, following his November 2023 update where he mentioned having already written 1,100 pages. While disappointing for fans who have waited nearly 14 years, there remains hope that the series could be completed by someone else. With the fourth illustrated edition on its way, it seems likely that all five special editions will be finished before The Winds of Winter sees the light of day.
