IDW's enduring Sonic the Hedgehog comic series recently achieved a significant benchmark with its 75th installment. Sonic the Hedgehog #75 depicted Team Sonic's climactic showdown against the antagonist Clutch, setting the stage for the subsequent "Scattered Pieces" storyline.
"Scattered Pieces" will unfold across Sonic the Hedgehog #76-80. With issue #76 now available, IGN exclusively reveals new artwork from the penultimate chapter during IGN Fan Fest. Series writer Ian Flynn helms "Scattered Pieces," with issue #79 featuring interior art and a primary cover by Adam Bryce Thomas. Variant covers come from Tyler Mcgrath and Nathalie Fourdraine.
IDW's official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog #79 teases:
- The explosive final confrontation between expert marksman Whisper and deadly assassin Mimic reaches its peak!
- Only one former ally will emerge victorious! Will Tangle and Silver's intervention shift the battle's momentum? Or will Whisper endure another tragic loss? This long-awaited duel delivers years' worth of built-up tension!
Flynn shared with IGN: "After seven successful years, IDW's Sonic the Hedgehog has developed its own rich tapestry of stories, characters, and unique narrative elements. Evan Stanley's latest arc culminated many of these threads. While concluding story arcs is always rewarding, I'm equally excited to explore the aftermath. Many fans will wonder 'What comes next?' My arc addresses those questions, provides additional resolutions, and prepares the groundwork for Evan's next major series storyline."
