In Hyper Light Breaker, selecting the right weapon is crucial for crafting the perfect build. Every player begins with basic loadouts, but as you delve deeper into the game, you'll discover equipment tailored to your preferred playstyle. The game blends roguelike and extraction elements, which means acquiring new weapons follows a unique approach. Here's a detailed guide on how to enhance your arsenal in Hyper Light Breaker.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
The primary method to acquire new gear is by exploring Overgrowths. During your runs, you'll naturally stumble upon new items, but if you're specifically hunting for weapons, keep an eye out for the sword or pistol icons on the map. These icons indicate the locations of Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades, which are melee weapons, offer diverse movesets and special abilities, allowing for varied combat strategies. On the other hand, Rails, being ranged weapons, come with unique functions that differentiate them from one another. Both types of weapons are available in various rarities, with gold being the most coveted. As with many loot-based games, the rarer the weapon, the better its stats.
When you find a weapon in the Overgrowth, you have the option to send it directly to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button instead of Equip. This allows you to equip it for your next run by adjusting your loadout before you set out again.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
Beyond acquiring new Breakers, you can also purchase new starting gear from merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you must gather enough materials to repair their shop.
Merchants offer a limited selection of items, but their stock refreshes over time. If you don't find anything appealing at first, it's worth checking back later to see what new items they might have in store.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, visit the merchants at the Outpost. However, you'll first need to unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This is achieved by collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource you can find while exploring or resetting cycles. Given their rarity, it's wise to use Golden Rations judiciously.
Be mindful that if you die, your equipped gear will lose one pip's worth of durability, indicated by the bar beneath their icons. Continuous deaths will eventually cause your gear to break, so manage your equipment carefully.
