Hyper Light Breaker, the eagerly awaited sequel to the acclaimed indie game Hyper Light Drifter, introduces significant changes to its predecessor's formula. Transitioning from a 2D pixel art style to a stunning 3D environment, it maintains its visual charm while evolving into a rogue-lite with extraction mechanics, diverging from the original's linear RPG structure. A key addition is the multiplayer feature, which enhances the gaming experience by allowing players to team up and tackle challenges together.
Playing Hyper Light Breaker with friends is not just an option but a core component that enriches the gameplay. Whether you're navigating the rogue-lite elements or extracting valuable loot, having a fellow Breaker by your side can make the experience smoother and more enjoyable. This guide details how to set up co-op sessions with friends and how to engage in online matchmaking with random players.
How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends
To enjoy Hyper Light Breaker's co-op multiplayer with your friends, you'll need to establish a Private multiplayer room. Once you've spawned into the Cursed Outpost, the central hub of Hyper Light Breaker, locate the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit, directly opposite the doorway leading into the Outpost.
Interact with the counter using the designated button (usually R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Within this menu, you can create a Breaker Team, join an existing team, or view your Invitations. To play with your friends, choose "Create Breaker Team".
In the subsequent menu, enable "Password Required" and input a password. After setting up your private Breaker Team, you can invite up to two friends via your platform's social service, whether that's PSN, Xbox, or Steam, as the game supports groups of up to three players.
If your friend is currently in the game, they'll receive the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of their Multiplayer menu. If they're offline, they can join your session using the invitation link you've sent them.
Your team might also appear in the general list of Breaker Teams available for others to join under the "Join Breaker Team" menu. Should other methods fail, your friend can search this list and join your Private group directly.
Once your friend accepts the invite and enters the password, you're all set for a cooperative adventure in Hyper Light Breaker.
Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker
If you're keen on multiplayer but don't have friends who own Hyper Light Breaker, the game's system offers public group creation for open play. You can set up a public group similarly to a private one, just without a password, or opt to join an existing public group through the game's matchmaking feature.
Navigate to the multiplayer menu at the Cursed Outpost, select "Join Breaker Team", and scroll to the bottom to choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team".
The game will then search for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and assign you to one if possible. After a brief loading screen, you'll find yourself in the world of the team's creator, ready to embark on a new adventure with strangers.
To leave a multiplayer session, return to the counter at the Cursed Outpost, access the multiplayer menu, and select the option to disconnect from your current session. This will return you to your own world. Alternatively, you can simply exit the game to end the session.
