"Hollow Knight: Silksong Steam Update Hints at 2025 Release"

Author : Chloe Apr 07,2025

The recent buzz around Hollow Knight: Silksong has reignited excitement among fans, following Microsoft's mention of the game in an Xbox post and subsequent backend changes to its Steam listing. On March 24, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated, as noted on SteamDB. These updates included an opt-in for the game on GeForce Now, changes to assets, and a significant update to the Steam store page's legal lines, now listing the copyright as Team Cherry 2025, rather than 2019. These developments suggest that a re-reveal and potential release of Hollow Knight: Silksong could be imminent, possibly aligning with Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 Direct on April 2.

It's been six years since the announcement of Hollow Knight: Silksong, and while there have been sporadic updates, the game has largely been shrouded in mystery. January saw a flurry of activity from Team Cherry on social media, sparking speculation about a re-reveal during the Switch 2 Direct, and even whispers of a timed launch exclusive on Nintendo's next-gen console.

When Hollow Knight: Silksong was first announced, Team Cherry confirmed its launch on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch. The game has also garnered significant interest as one of the most-wanted titles for Microsoft's Game Pass, following a deal to bring Silksong to the service on day one.

In June 2022, Microsoft included Hollow Knight: Silksong in its Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, promising that all showcased games would be playable within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay past the first half of 2023, with marketing and publishing lead Matthew Griffin stating, "We had planned to release in the first half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game, Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense expectations. It remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam, with IGN's review of the original praising its "compelling and rich world of Hallownest, full of story that’s left for you to discover on your own, and built with branching paths that offer an absurd amount of choice in how you go about discovering it."
