How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest automatically unlocks as you progress through the quests for the blacksmith Radovan in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. After locating the lost cart, return to Radovan. He'll express his desire to forge a sword as a wedding gift, which initiates the Hermit questline. Before you can meet the hermit, you must first gather information from the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

Begin by visiting the tavern in Troskowitz and engaging with Innkeeper Betty, ensuring you exhaust all dialogue options. Continue gathering information by speaking with other villagers, such as the alehouse maid and the general trader.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Your next step involves speaking with Gerda in Troskowitz, who claims to have witnessed an apparition. You can either persuade her with a small amount of Groschen or pass a dialogue check to extract the necessary information. Then, travel to Apollonia and converse with Stanislav. Again, you'll need to pass a dialogue check or offer Groschen.

Gather Evidence

With the information in hand, it's time to collect concrete evidence. Go to the cross Gerda mentioned and dig up the grave to uncover Groschen, documents, and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. You'll need a spade for this task, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz or find for free in nearby cemeteries.

After reading the documents, follow the quest marker to Apollonia to locate a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse to obtain your next clue, preparing you to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Approach the hermit’s hut and initiate a conversation. Without the evidence, he won't engage with you. Armed with your findings, he'll be more forthcoming. Choose the following dialogue options:

  • "You’re suspicious."
  • Exhaust all dialogue options about the clues and evidence.
  • "Out with it!"

The hermit will confess that he isn't Ambrose but Konrad. Before handing over the sword, Konrad requests you to deliver a cross to a widow named Margaret.

Visit the cemetery near Apollonia to find Margaret and give her the cross, starting the Sinful Soul quest. You can complete this quest immediately by assisting her in digging a grave for Ambrose, though this step is optional. You may choose to return to Konrad directly.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

Upon returning to the hermit’s hut, you'll encounter Crusaders. You can decide to either aid them in killing Konrad or help Konrad escape.

Sneak towards the hut and inform Konrad that you've completed the task. Ask about the sword's location. At this juncture, you must choose between helping Konrad or killing him. I chose to kill Konrad, as battling him is simpler, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders' assistance.

After Konrad's defeat, speak with the Crusaders and agree to return the documents for a small sum of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Lastly, travel north of the hermit’s hut to find two intertwined oak trees. The hermit's sword will be embedded in the ground. Retrieve it and return to Radovan in Tachov to conclude the Hermit quest.

By following these steps, you'll successfully obtain the hermit's sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and information on the game, including the best perks to unlock first and all romance options, be sure to visit The Escapist.
