The excitement surrounding the GTA 6 mapping project has reached new heights following the release of Trailer 2. Garza, a key member of the project who oversees the GTA 6 Mapping Discord, told IGN, "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The project's community, which currently boasts 370 members and is on track to surpass 400, is abuzz with activity as they delve into the wealth of new details provided by the trailer.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza emphasized. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was born in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some fans believe were subtly referenced by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's mission is to construct the most accurate possible map of GTA 6, a task that relied heavily on the leaks and December 2023's Trailer 1 until the recent release of Trailer 2.The latest version of the GTA 6 map, released by project lead DuPz0r at the end of March, has quickly become outdated. The influx of information from Trailer 2 is set to help create a significantly more detailed and precise map.

Rockstar not only confirmed plot details and characters but also released 70 new screenshots of GTA 6, showcasing various explorable locations within the fictional state of Leonida, which mirrors Florida. Confirmed locations include Vice City (GTA 6's version of Miami), the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and the national landmark Mount Kalaga near the state's northern border.
The project volunteers are meticulously analyzing Trailer 2 to pinpoint the exact locations of all depicted elements, striving to match these fictional spaces with their real-world counterparts. This effort will help refine GTA 6's map further. Once completed, DuPz0r plans to release an updated map, offering fans the most comprehensive preview of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release additional GTA 6 assets or gameplay footage before the game's release, the volunteers are prepared to update the map again. The true accuracy of their work will only be revealed once GTA 6 is available and the fan-created map can be compared to the actual game.

However, the GTA 6 mapping project faces potential legal challenges from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to halt the project following a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the work of the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about concerns over potential action from Take-Two, Garza admitted to "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
As we await further developments, stay tuned for more on GTA 6, including all the details we've discovered so far and all the GTA 6 fan theories emerging from Trailer 2 itself.
