Exciting news for gaming enthusiasts: Game Informer is back in action, and the entire team has returned just over six months after GameStop shut it down in August 2024. In a heartfelt 'Letter From the Editor,' Game Informer's Editor-In-Chief, Matt Miller, announced that Gunzilla Games, the creative force behind the free-to-play extraction battle royale game Off the Grid, has acquired the rights to Game Informer from GameStop. This acquisition not only brings back the beloved editorial team but also promises to expand into production and beyond.
For those new to Gunzilla Games, they are not only the developers of Off the Grid, currently in Early Access, but also the minds behind GunZ, a "Layer-1 blockchain ecosystem" designed to enhance community-driven economies within AAA games. Adding to their impressive roster, the team includes Neill Blomkamp, the acclaimed director of District 9 and Chappie, who serves as Gunzilla's chief creative officer and co-founder.
Game Informer is back! The entire team is returning and we can't wait to reconnect. Come join us to celebrate the best in games, the people who make games, and the people who play games from around the world.

Miller emphasized that the new owners are committed to maintaining Game Informer as an independent editorial outlet. They believe, just as firmly as the editorial team does, that the only way forward is with an editorial group that retains complete control over content decisions. As a result, Game Informer now operates under a new entity called Game Informer Inc., reviving its over 30-year legacy that was temporarily paused last August. The team has been busy during the hiatus, preparing "dozens" of new reviews for games released during their absence and gearing up for their Best of 2024 awards.
Fans of the print magazine will be thrilled to know it's making a comeback, though at a later date. Miller shared the team's ambition to make it "bigger and better than it was before." In the coming weeks, Game Informer plans to introduce membership and subscription benefits, enhance their video, streaming, and feature coverage, and broaden their range of experts and partnerships to bring diverse perspectives to their audience.
