Fun Dog Studios has recently rolled out a major update for their extraction-survival game, *The Forever Winter*, titled "The Descent to Averno is Easy". This update, available in early access, brings transformative changes to core mechanics, significantly enhancing both the depth of gameplay and the overall player experience.
A standout feature of this update is the revamped water system. Water no longer depletes in real-time; instead, it functions as a currency for accessing various regions. The cost to enter these areas fluctuates daily, adding a layer of strategy to resource management. Players can now trade water with teammates before matches start, which influences quest rewards and resource distribution across the map. Those who have amassed water reserves prior to the update will be rewarded with a special bonus from the developers in the future.
Combat mechanics have undergone substantial enhancements as well. Recoil, accuracy, weapon sway, and handling have been completely overhauled. Aiming mechanics, reload animations, and shotgun balance have also been refined, with these improvements currently applied to several weapons. The studio plans to extend these enhancements across the entire weapon arsenal in upcoming updates.
The enemy AI has been upgraded to be more realistic. New detection indicators give players clearer feedback on how close they are to being spotted. Enemies now exhibit more intelligent reactions to their environment and combat situations. Moreover, the spawn system has been revised to prevent unfair encounters, ensuring enemies no longer appear directly in front of or behind players.
To add variety to the gameplay, the update introduces two exciting features: the "Stairway to Heaven" map and a night mode for the "Frozen Swamp" map, which infuses horror-inspired elements into the atmosphere. Other improvements include an enhanced looting system, reworked melee combat for enemies, and a variety of new quests for players to undertake.
