In Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Hans's main quest, "For Whom the Bell Tolls," requires crafting a Fever Tonic to aid someone at Trosky Castle. Here's how to acquire the recipe and brew the tonic.
Acquiring the Fever Tonic Recipe:
There are two ways to access the Surgeon's Workshop in Trosky Castle, where the recipe resides:
-
Stealth: Sneak into the workshop.
-
Diplomacy: Convince the chamberlain you can create a digestive potion for his stomach ailment. Success depends on skill checks. If you fail, you'll need to steal food, bribe a guard with the stolen food, and then sneak into the kitchen to access the workshop.
Alternatively, after delivering the horseshoe in "For Whom the Bell Tolls," speak with Cook Fanka. Assisting her with a locked chest grants access to the noble's kitchen and the chamberlain. Successfully persuading him to allow you into the Surgeon's Workshop is key. The Physician's journal, containing the recipe, is located on a bookshelf within the workshop.
Brewing the Fever Tonic:
The necessary herbs are already present on the surgeon's station. Follow these steps, using the Fever Tonic recipe from the journal:
- Pour wine into the cauldron.
- Add 3 handfuls of Feverfew.
- Lower the heat and boil for 2 turns of the sandglass.
- Grind a handful of Elderberry Leaves.
- Add the ground Elderberry Leaves.
- Add 2 handfuls of Ginger.
- Obtain a phial from the bottom-left shelf.
- Distill the tonic using the Still.
Don't worry about failing; there are ample herbs available. After brewing the tonic, deliver it (and the digestive potion, if made) to the chamberlain to meet Thomas, or if you failed the diplomacy route, use the kitchen to reach Thomas and Adele in the chapel to complete the quest.
