According to IDW’s official synopsis, *Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1* will launch into comic shops this August with a hard-R tone that mirrors the film's chilling intensity. Set before the events of the movie and designed to be accessible for new readers, the series will reveal the harrowing truth behind Captain Kilpack and his crew’s descent into madness. As their ship crosses into a realm of unimaginable torment, they face unspeakable horrors—led by Paimon, the eyeless King of Hell—in a tale of cosmic dread and supernatural suffering.

“It's a huge privilege to be handed the keys of such a beloved film, one I take very seriously and I have some extremely exciting things up my sleeve,” said Christian Ward. “Big gory swings will be happening. You'll never see the film in the same light again.”

“I think what Christian's laying out and adding to the lore is going to surprise people," Ward continued. "It's certainly given me a lot of gnarly, visceral stuff to chew on visually, which is always fun—and knowing that this is being done directly in collaboration with the team behind the film certainly helps lock things in as something fans of the film will want to explore with us.”

Play*Event Horizon: Dark Descent #1* will arrive in stores on **August 20, 2025**, offering fans a terrifying glimpse into the origin of one of sci-fi horror’s most infamous vessels.
