In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, the sprawling battlefields demand swift movement to reach and rescue fellow officers, ensuring victory. While there's no direct sprint button—your character will automatically sprint after a few steps—having a horse at your disposal can significantly enhance your mobility and combat effectiveness. Horses can be summoned anytime in the overworld or during battles, allowing for dynamic hit-and-run tactics. Let's dive into how to acquire your first horse, level it up, and even switch between different steeds.

How To Unlock The First Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

To get your first horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll need to reach a specific point in Chapter 1. After successfully completing the "Test Of Zheng Fei" battle, a merchant will appear in the overworld. You'll encounter him as you journey northeast from Wan Castle towards the Battle Of Guangzong, but before reaching the camp. This merchant stands next to his horse, ready to gift it to you. Simply engage in conversation with him, and the horse will be yours, automatically equipped and ready to ride.

Summoning your horse is straightforward: press down on the left joystick if you're playing on a console, or hit the 'V' key on your keyboard.

How To Level Up Your Horse In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Leveling up your horse in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is tied to the missions you complete while it's equipped. Whether or not you actively use the horse during a mission, it will earn XP from completing main story battles and missions. Note that Skirmishes won't contribute to your horse's XP. Missions are easily identifiable by their red diamond icon with a soldier symbol in the center, representing medium-length engagements. The amount of XP your horse earns depends on the battle's duration, how much you ride, and the frequency of charging into enemies. As your horse levels up, it gains access to unique buffs at regular intervals, which vary with each horse.

How To Switch Horses In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

While your first horse is automatically equipped, Dynasty Warriors: Origins offers the opportunity to acquire and switch between different horses. You can manage your steeds in the Battle Preparation menu, found as the last option on the left side of the screen. Each horse comes with unique perks, and some may be faster or possess superior abilities, making it worthwhile to switch when you acquire a new one. To obtain new horses, you'll need to maximize the peace level of a region, after which a new horse will be available as a reward at a nearby waypoint.
