In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you primarily play as the Wanderer, striving for peace. Your journey offers numerous story choices, and you'll frequently be accompanied by powerful companions in battle. While they'll fight alongside you, occasionally you can take direct control. These companions are significantly stronger than the Wanderer, making switching a strategic advantage. Here's how:
How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Character switching is only possible during battles where you have a companion. Before a battle, in the pre-battle war council menu, your companion will be listed as a final option. You can choose to fight alone, but companion switching isn't available then. Once the battle starts, your companion's health bar will appear below yours on the screen.
Beneath their health bar is a blue meter, similar to your Musou gauge. This meter fills as you perform actions like:
- Parrying attacks
- Perfect dodging
- Assaulting Officers
- Using Weapon Arts
Most combat actions contribute, though at varying rates. A full blue meter activates the "Change Character" button. Press and hold this button (View on Xbox, C on PC, Touchpad on PlayStation) for about a second to switch.
Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins
Switching characters is best reserved for intense moments within larger battles. Companions are exceptionally powerful, and control is temporary (approximately one minute). The blue meter, once full, will gradually deplete, showing your remaining time. Your new character will start with full Bravery and a range of effective combat arts.
Switching also initiates a powerful attack; aim carefully! Your companion will retain their own filled Musou and health bars, allowing immediate use of their special attack.
