Techland Rules Out Dying Light Update for Switch

Author : Joshua Feb 08,2026

The Dying Light: Retouched update arrives tomorrow, bringing enhanced visuals and remastered audio to the PC and console versions of Techland's original zombie parkour adventure. However, players on Nintendo Switch will not have access to these improvements.

Yesterday, the studio detailed its plans for this free update, which aims to revitalize the 10-year-old post-apocalyptic title. The overhaul includes improved textures, upgraded lighting, and a completely rebuilt audio experience for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. Notably, the Nintendo Switch version was excluded from the update lineup.

IGN contacted Techland to inquire about a potential Dying Light: Retouched update for the Nintendo Switch. A studio representative confirmed that no such release is planned.

"The Dying Light: Retouched Update is not coming to Nintendo Switch," Techland stated via email.

Dying Light first launched on the original Nintendo Switch in 2021 as a comprehensive Platinum Edition bundle. While its sales performance is unclear, its availability was impacted by a ban in Germany, preventing digital purchases on the Switch eShop across Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

Hopes for a Retouched update arriving on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 are also unfounded. Currently, Dying Light is only playable on the new hardware via backward compatibility.

"Regarding a Switch 2 port of the original Dying Light: We have no plans at this moment," Techland said. "Our current focus is on delivering Dying Light: The Beast for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 22, 2025. We have no news to share about Nintendo Switch 2 at this time."

This means Nintendo fans' only official option remains Dying Light: Platinum Edition on the original Switch. The cloud version of Dying Light 2: Stay Human was announced for Switch in 2021 but never released, despite the 2022 launch on other platforms. Its future release remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, the upcoming spinoff, Dying Light: The Beast, which features the return of original protagonist Kyle Crane, will also skip Nintendo platforms when it launches on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S on August 22. Last week, Dying Light Franchise Director Tymon Smektała told Wccftech that Techland would "love" to bring The Beast to Switch 2 but had "nothing to announce" yet.

Dying Light: Retouched will still introduce numerous improvements to the decade-old game upon its release tomorrow. You can find more details in the developer's official blog post here. You can also revisit our original 8.5/10 review of Dying Light here.
