The highly anticipated Dragon Quest 12 remains in active development, with series creator Yuji Horii reassuring fans that information about the game will be released gradually. During a livestream with his radio show group KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, as reported by Automaton, Horii mentioned that the development team at Square Enix is diligently working on the project. This update marks the first news on Dragon Quest 12 since May 2024, when Horii addressed the passing of the series' iconic character designer Akira Toriyama and composer Koichi Sugiyama. Additionally, the lead producer Yu Miyake had stepped down to focus on Square Enix's mobile game division.
Amid concerns that Dragon Quest 12 might have been canceled due to restructuring at Square Enix and a lack of updates, Horii's recent comments provide reassurance that the game is still on track. Dragon Quest 12 was initially announced during the series' 35th anniversary celebration and will be the first mainline entry following 2017's Dragon Quest 11: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Since the announcement, Square Enix has celebrated the success of Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake, which sold over 2 million copies, surpassing sales expectations.
