Divinity Original Sin 2: Blackroot Locations

Quick Links

In Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot herb is surprisingly crucial, especially for the Miester's Ritual in Act Four. This ritual, overseen by Miester Siva, requires a Ritual Bowl (crafted from a ritual bowl, bloody obsidian lancet, and Blackroot) to unlock the Hall of Echoes and the coveted Night Vision skill.

Initially, all ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, subsequent rituals (performed after gaining each Source Point) require you to find the ingredients yourself. While the ritual bowl and obsidian lancet are usually easy to locate (you might even already have them!), the Blackroot can be elusive. This guide will help you track it down.

Venture Into Cloisterwood

Cloisterwood, a dense forest northwest of Driftwood on Reaper's Coast, is your target. Once inside, use the left ALT key to highlight interactive objects; this will make spotting herbs, including Blackroots, at the base of trees much easier. You only need one for the ritual, but gathering a few extra is a wise precaution. This guide avoids spoilers regarding the ritual's frequency, but remember you can perform it after each Source Point gain.

Cloisterwood Exploration Tips

Cloisterwood offers more than just Blackroot. Explore carefully to discover hidden gems: two NPCs (Hannag and Jahan, the latter crucial for Lohse's storyline) who can each grant a Source Point; Eithne, an undead trader (interact with her, select "Divine Order" for a side quest); and a challenging witch (Alice Alisceon—best tackled at level 15 or higher).

Further north lies a pier with a Dead Ferryman offering passage to Bloodmoon Island. Beyond these, Cloisterwood holds many secrets, including Wrecker's Cave and potentially a unique loremaster amulet from a ship captain's spirit. Thorough exploration is highly recommended on your first visit.
