How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria
To begin your romance with Caldarus, you must break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. This requires offering four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Breaking the seal triggers a cutscene where the Mines Priestess demands the farmer leave. Just as danger threatens, Caldarus intervenes, transforming into his human form, bestowing the Dragon’s Breath spell upon you before retreating to the Deep Woods. This transformation unlocks his romance path. You can now give him gifts and engage in daily conversations. Remember to use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently unlock his temple in the Deep Woods on your map.
Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria
Caldarus begins with six hearts—the current maximum—after the March 2025 update. While additional heart events are expected in future updates, currently, only a few cutscenes are available. One is an early dream sequence introducing Mistria's magic system, and the other depicts Caldarus saving the farmer after the Fire Seal is broken. His human form is revealed in this scene.
Following the update, a special date is possible during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

This end-of-summer event lets you date any romanceable NPC with four or more hearts. Since Caldarus starts with six, you’re ready to go! Gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28, then meet him afterward to initiate the event. This leads to a romantic cutscene at the Summit, where you’ll discuss the stars, Mistrian traditions, and the nature of connections. The conversation takes a philosophical turn as Caldarus reflects on the complexities of relationships. The date concludes with an invitation to continue stargazing at his temple.
