Square Enix has proudly announced that the iconic JRPG, Chrono Trigger, has reached its 30-year milestone. This significant anniversary is being celebrated with a series of upcoming projects that are slated for release over the next year. While the specifics of these projects remain under wraps, the language used in the announcement hints that they might encompass more than just the game itself.

The news has ignited a flurry of excitement and speculation within the fanbase, many of whom have been eagerly awaiting a comprehensive remaster or a release on modern consoles. Despite being widely regarded as one of the greatest JRPGs ever created, Chrono Trigger has yet to see a complete remake or even a re-release on PlayStation beyond its 1999 PS1 port.

Over the years, the game has found its way to PC and mobile platforms, but fans still yearn for a definitive modern version. While Square Enix has a history of revisiting its classic titles, no such plans have been confirmed yet. However, fans can look forward to a special anniversary event: a livestreamed concert featuring the game's legendary soundtrack. This concert will be available to watch on YouTube on March 14th, starting at 7:00 p.m. PT and continuing into the early hours of the next morning.

For those new to the series, Chrono Trigger is a masterpiece of time-traveling RPG adventure, developed by an all-star team that includes Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame, Yuji Horii, the mind behind Dragon Quest, and the renowned artist Akira Toriyama, known for Dragon Ball.

Originally launched in 1995 on the Super Famicom and SNES, the game follows protagonist Crono and his companions as they traverse various time periods, from a prehistoric era filled with dinosaurs to a dystopian future dominated by an alien threat. Throughout their journey, players will recruit diverse allies, influence historical events, and confront one of gaming's most memorable final bosses.

As Chrono Trigger celebrates this monumental 30th anniversary, while there's no confirmed news of a remake or console port yet, Square Enix's announcement keeps the possibility alive. Fans are encouraged to follow Chrono Trigger’s official X page for the latest updates on what's in store.
