The latest Capcom Spotlight and Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase brought an exciting wave of announcements, revealing a wealth of new details across several major titles. From the highly anticipated Monster Hunter Wilds story trailer and Open Beta 2 information to updates on Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, and the official release date for Capcom Fighting Collection 2, there’s plenty to digest.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword – A Triumphant Return in 2026

Capcom is bringing back the legendary Onimusha franchise with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, scheduled for a 2026 release. The development team has focused on three key pillars: crafting compelling characters, introducing a brand-new protagonist, and designing challenging yet rewarding enemies.

Set in the Edo Period, the game will immerse players in the historically rich city of Kyoto. Players will face off against supernatural creatures known as Genma. The protagonist, drawn into conflict by fate, wields the powerful Oni Gauntlet—gaining strength by absorbing enemy souls.

The developers aim to create a balanced challenge that remains accessible to action fans of all skill levels while delivering what they call the "ultimate sword fighting action" experience, complete with the visceral satisfaction of slicing through foes.

Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny Gets a 2025 Remaster

In addition to the new entry, Capcom is treating fans to a remastered version of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, originally released in 2002. This HD upgrade is set to arrive in 2025, serving as the perfect bridge between the classic series and the upcoming Onimusha: Way of the Sword.

Monster Hunter Wilds Open Beta 2 – Enter the Arkveld

Excitement builds for Monster Hunter Wilds as its second Open Beta approaches. This iteration introduces the flagship monster Arkveld, offering a high-level quest designed to test even the most seasoned hunters.

New features include:

  • A Gypceros Hunt for those looking to refine their skills.
  • A training area for practice and exploration.
  • Enhanced online modes, including Private Lobbies (not visible in public searches) and Online Single Player Mode, allowing solo play without joining a lobby. Players can still summon others using an S.O.S. Flare when assistance is needed.

Beta participants can carry over their character data to the full game, though progression won't transfer. Completing the beta also grants a special in-game pendant.

Open Beta 2 Schedule:

  • First Wave: Thursday, February 6 at 7 PM PT – Sunday, February 9 at 6:59 PM PT
  • Second Wave: Thursday, February 13 at 7 PM PT – Sunday, February 16 at 6:59 PM PT

Cross-play support will be available during this test, paving the way for a seamless launch on February 28, 2025.
