Breath of Fire IV, the cherished role-playing game from Capcom, has made a triumphant return to PC gaming, 25 years after its initial launch. Originally released on the PlayStation in Japan and North America in 2000, followed by Europe in 2001, the game saw a PC port in Europe and Japan in 2003. This classic title follows the journey of Ryu, a protagonist distinct from Capcom's other famous Ryu, who possesses the unique ability to transform into a dragon. Alongside a band of warriors, Ryu embarks on a mission to thwart an emperor's destructive ambitions and save the world.
In a commendable effort to preserve gaming history, GOG has revitalized Breath of Fire IV through its ongoing Preservation Program. The game is now fully updated for modern PCs and available DRM-free on GOG's platform. This enhanced version boasts full compatibility with Windows 10 and 11, and includes both English and Japanese localizations. Players can enjoy improved graphics thanks to an upgraded DirectX renderer, alongside new display options such as Windowed Mode, V-Sync, Anti-Aliasing, and refined gamma correction for superior visuals. The audio experience has also been enriched with the restoration of missing environmental sounds and the addition of new configuration options.
