Variety reports that a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is on the verge of coming to life at Hulu, with Sarah Michelle Gellar in discussions to reprise her iconic role as the vampire-slaying hunter. The new series will focus on a different Slayer, but fans can look forward to seeing Gellar as a recurring character.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao, celebrated for her work on films like Nomadland and Eternals, is in talks to helm the project and serve as an executive producer. The writing and showrunning duties will be handled by Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman. Notably, original series creator Joss Whedon will not be involved in this reboot.
While Whedon spearheaded the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer series and the movie it was based on, he faced allegations of fostering a toxic work environment during the production of both the TV show and its spinoff, Angel.Details on the plot of the reboot remain under wraps, except for the confirmation that it will center on a new Slayer and may feature Gellar reprising her role as Buffy.
