Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former CD Projekt Red developers, is crafting The Blood of Dawnwalker, an open-world vampire RPG aiming for the quality bar set by The Witcher 3, albeit on a smaller scale. This article delves into the upcoming title and the director's vision.
A Focused, High-Quality Experience
In a recent interview with GamesRadar, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz clarified the studio's aspirations. While acknowledging their smaller team and debut project, he emphasized their commitment to AAA-level quality, explicitly referencing The Witcher 3 as their benchmark.
The team, far from inexperienced, boasts a wealth of experience from working on both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Rebel Wolves' founding by the Tomaszkiewicz brothers was driven by a desire for greater creative freedom, a freedom often restricted within larger AAA studios.
Tomaszkiewicz anticipates a 30-40 hour main campaign, shorter than many AAA titles. However, he argues that playtime isn't the sole measure of quality, citing examples like Call of Duty which, despite shorter campaigns, are undeniably AAA titles. The focus, he clarifies, is on delivering a robust, high-quality experience within a more manageable scope.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a peasant granted vampiric powers, who embarks on a quest to save his sister while navigating the dangerous world around him.
Currently, there's no official release date, but the game is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal promised for Summer 2025.
