The game begins in the Library of Babel, a vast and enigmatic edifice inspired by the biblical Tower of Babel and the Jorge Luis Borges short story of the same name. In this setting, the library contains every conceivable book, making it a labyrinth of knowledge and mystery.
You awaken within this bewildering structure, with no clear memory of your arrival, alongside a cast of intriguing characters who share your confusion. It seems you're destined for something great, but there's a twist: everyone faces annihilation by a colossal spinning orb in just twenty-four hours. Welcome to your first day as a Seer—hope you're fond of bookshelves!
Despite the humor, the setting and narrative have a captivating, almost chaotic charm. The library, filled with nonsensical texts, hints at time travel and teases with mythological allusions (we won't spoil the bird mystery). The story plunges you into its depths from the start, and if you find yourself bewildered, that's precisely the intended effect.

Black Beacon offers a dynamic ARPG dungeon crawler experience, allowing you to customize your camera viewpoint between a top-down perspective and a free camera mode controlled with your other hand. We found the latter more engaging, but it's ultimately a matter of personal taste.
As you navigate the Library's corridors, you'll progress through the story, divided into concise, episodic segments. Each segment includes multiple maps, and accessing them requires energy, which the game generously provides.
Your journey involves exploring areas, solving puzzles, uncovering hidden treasure chests, and battling eerie enemies—distorted remnants of individuals the Library has 'not fully digested.' The combat system is both fun and challenging, featuring quick, action-packed sequences that demand precise timing. Perfect dodges grant invincibility frames, while well-timed heavy attacks can interrupt enemy moves.
A unique feature is the character-swap mechanic, allowing you to switch fighters during combat. This adds a strategic layer, enabling you to rest tired characters and introduce fresh ones mid-battle. Mastering this rhythm enhances the combat experience, though mistiming a dodge can send you flying down the hallway.
Characters And Weapon Rolls
As a gacha game, Black Beacon includes a system for acquiring characters and weapons, with weapons tailored to specific characters. Both can be leveled up, and while the variety of materials required can be extensive, the game offers automation to streamline the process.
