Ready to take down the Chatacabra, either by slaying it or capturing it for your collection? This amphibian menace is one of the first monsters you'll encounter in *Monster Hunter Wilds*, and mastering this fight will set you up for success in later hunts. Let's dive into how to conquer this long-tongued beast.
How to Beat Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Weaknesses: Ice, Thunder
Resistances: N/A
Immunities: Sonic Bomb
The Chatacabra, a large frog-like monster, primarily uses close-range attacks with its tongue. However, it can also charge if you maintain your distance. While relatively easy to defeat, its smaller size makes weapons like the Bow and Charge Blade slightly less effective than others due to their multi-hit attacks being more efficient against larger targets. Any weapon type can still be used effectively.
Most of its attacks involve its tongue, making the area directly in front of it the most dangerous. Besides its tongue lash, it slams its front limbs into the ground after a noticeable rearing motion. The only significant attack when not directly in front is a head-raising move followed by a sweeping tongue attack behind it.
The optimal strategy is to stay to its sides, dodging or blocking its slam attacks. Utilizing its elemental weaknesses will significantly expedite the fight, leading to a swift victory and a new trophy.
How to Capture Chatacabra in Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster capture in Monster Hunter Wilds follows a consistent pattern, and the flightless Chatacabra simplifies the process. You'll need either a Shock Trap or a Pitfall Trap, along with two Tranquilizer Bombs. It's advisable to carry one of each trap type and a full eight Tranquilizer Bombs for unforeseen circumstances.
Battle the Chatacabra until its icon on the minimap displays a small skull, indicating its final retreat. Follow it to its chosen location, set your trap, and lure it inside. Once trapped, use two Tranquilizer Bombs to subdue it, completing the capture.
