Avowed expands the rich fantasy universe of Eora from the Pillars of Eternity series, yet offers a more constrained set of choices in its character creator. Below is a detailed look at all the playable races in Avowed.
Humans (Known In-Universe as Folk)
Humans, referred to as Folk within Avowed, are the most common race in the game and the character creator. As part of the broader category of Kith, which includes various sentient and civilized species, humans have a significant presence. Avowed offers extensive customization for humans, with numerous presets, detailed character customization tools, and a variety of facial presets, skin tone sliders, and hair textures. This ensures a broad range of options to help players craft a character that resonates with them personally.
Elves
Elves are another selectable race in Avowed. They share a close resemblance to humans, distinguished primarily by their unique facial structures and iconic long, pointed ears. The character creator for elves provides similar depth in customization, allowing players to fine-tune their elf characters to their liking.
Godlikes
The third race option in Avowed is the Godlikes. While all Envoys are Godlike in the game's narrative, players have the choice to display these divine features or not. Godlikes come with distinctive hair and facial features, ranging from subtle to surreal. At launch, Avowed offers 14 different Godlike facial features and four unique hair options, applicable across all races and body types.
What Gender Options are Available in the Avowed Character Creator?
In Avowed, players can choose from four body types: two masculine and two feminine, available for both Humans and Elves. Additionally, there are two voice options for each gender. Players can also select their character's identifier, which determines the pronouns used for them - options include he, she, and they. This allows for a more personalized and inclusive character creation experience.
Several Races Present in Avowed Are Not Playable
While Avowed introduces a variety of Kith races through its NPCs, such as Dwarves, semiaquatic Aumaua, and half-sized Orlans, these are not available for player customization at launch. These races add depth to the world of Avowed, and there's potential for Obsidian Entertainment to expand the character creator options in future updates or DLCs.
