The Marvel Cinematic Universe's future is taking shape, with directors Anthony and Joe Russo hinting at how Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will differ from their previous MCU work, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. In an interview with Omelete, the Russos described Avengers 5 and 6 as a "new beginning," laying the groundwork for Phase 7. Joe Russo stated, "What's compelling about these two new Avengers movies is they're a beginning. It's a new beginning. We told an ending story [with Infinity War and Endgame], and now we're going to tell a beginning story."
The Russos also discussed their return to the Marvel universe. Anthony Russo explained, "What happened was, a creative idea just came to us and that ended up feeling like the right idea. It motivated us to do it again. We feel like we have something fresh, we feel like we have a story that’s important and needs to be told." He acknowledged the pressure surrounding Doomsday, aiming to revitalize theatrical viewership post-pandemic. Interestingly, the decision to bring back Robert Downey Jr. originated with Marvel producer Kevin Feige, following a period of initial hesitation from the Russos due to a lack of a suitable storyline.

Joe Russo offered a cryptic insight: "The only thing I’ll say about the movie is this: we love villains who think they’re the heroes of their own stories…That’s where a lot of our focus is going.”
Avengers: Doomsday is slated for May 1, 2026, with Secret Wars following in May 2027.
Kevin Feige previously hinted at the X-Men's introduction in upcoming MCU films, stating that fans would see "some X-Men players that you might recognize" in the next few installments. He emphasized the X-Men's crucial role in the MCU's future, particularly after Secret Wars, describing it as leading to "a new age of mutants and of the X-Men." Feige further confirmed the X-Men's importance in the post-Secret Wars narrative. Storm's appearance in What If...? Season 3 marked a significant first step. With three untitled Marvel films scheduled for 2028 (February 18, May 5, and November 10), speculation points to at least one being an X-Men project.
