This artbook, which has been making rounds on the internet, reportedly contains several hundred pages of concept art, quotations, and development insights into the next installment of the popular franchise. The leak was first spotted on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours, with the source of the leak surprisingly being a site known for hosting hentai, adding an unusual twist to the story. IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for an official comment on the matter. Although the gallery was quickly removed from the original site, it has since been archived and shared across various file-sharing platforms and galleries.
The artbook reveals intriguing elements such as concept art of famous historical figures, depictions of major cities, and an assortment of weapons. It also potentially contains plot spoilers, though confirmation will only be possible once Assassin's Creed Shadows is released. The leak comes just before the game's scheduled launch on March 20, 2025, which was delayed from an earlier 2024 release to February and then further postponed.
At a recent preview event, IGN had the opportunity to discuss the game with Assassin's Creed Shadows game director Charles Benoit. He explained that the delay was primarily to allow more time for polishing, with no major system overhauls. However, the team did make some updates to the progression system to enhance engagement and balance. The main focus of the additional development time was the parkour system, which faced unique challenges due to the complex architecture of Feudal Japan. "The Japanese architecture, the roofs [are] super complex," Benoit remarked. "Probably the most complex thing that I ever worked with if we compared to Odyssey and Syndicate. We needed specific codes and specific animations to support something super fluid, changing the transition of the parkour to make it even more fluid. So that's one of the specific feedback that we heard that we wanted to address, and it really improved since the last few months."
