Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a recent Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches to resolve the issues affecting two of their popular titles, though some players might still face challenges with other games in the series.

Windows frequently rolls out updates, and the latest, Windows 11 24H2, brought a host of new features, including Wi-Fi 7 support, enhanced energy-saving modes, and AI-powered Copilot+ PC functionalities. However, following the deployment of this update, gamers reported that certain titles, including some from the Assassin's Creed series, were failing to start or were not functioning as expected. The newly released patches aim to rectify these issues for two Ubisoft games.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have both received title updates that address the problems caused by the Windows 11 24H2 update. Players should automatically receive these updates via Steam, enabling their games to launch properly once installed. It's important for users to have sufficient storage space, as the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's patch demands 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

The exact cause within the Windows update that led to the malfunctioning of certain Ubisoft games remains unclear. While the community appreciates the restoration of Origins and Valhalla, some players are still voicing concerns over unresolved issues in other titles. Notably, Assassin's Creed Odyssey continues to experience problems, either becoming unresponsive or failing to function altogether. Ubisoft's previous hotfixes have mitigated the most severe issues in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, but some performance hiccups may persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a specific fix for their game is available.

Although the situation is improving, the initial occurrence of these issues was unfortunate. Players started reporting problems with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months ago, yet the issue persisted into the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. Fortunately, the majority of games have not been significantly affected by the update.
