The trailer introduces a new Xenomorph design while closely mirroring the aesthetic of Ridley Scott's iconic 1979 horror classic, Alien. A striking scene within the trailer is set in a MU/TH/UR control room, reminiscent of the one on the Nostromo, where Ripley famously uncovers the dire situation of her crew.

In the trailer, a frantic crew member desperately seeks help while banging on a sealed door as the Xenomorph closes in. Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, appears indifferent to her pleas, announcing that the "specimens are loose," pronouncing the crew dead, and setting the ship's course towards Earth. The trailer then shifts to depict six soldiers advancing towards what is likely the crashed vessel, hinting at their grim fate.

The trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What motivates him? Did any other crew members escape? Is anyone left carrying a Xenomorph embryo? How will the soldiers meet their end?

Alien: Earth is set to explore these mysteries, following a mysterious space vessel's crash on Earth. The series focuses on a young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers who uncover a terrifying threat to the planet.

Play*FX’s Alien series is set in 2120*, fitting neatly into the timeline after *Prometheus* and just two years before the events of *Alien* and the Nostromo's ill-fated journey. This placement has sparked speculation among fans that *Alien: Earth* might show the Nostromo departing Earth or reveal how the Weyland-Yutani corporation first learned of the Xenomorphs. As a point of reference, the recently released interquel *Alien: Romulus* takes place between *Alien* and *Aliens*.

In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed his decision to deviate from the Prometheus backstory for Alien: Earth. He expressed his preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films and mentioned consulting with Ridley Scott on numerous aspects of the series. Ultimately, Hawley chose to steer clear of the bioweapon narrative in favor of the lore established by the earlier movies.

FX's Alien: Earth is slated to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025. Additionally, Alien: Romulus 2 is currently in development.
