Is there any doubt they would bring Alicia Silverstone back into those iconic yellows and plaids? The beloved actress is reportedly set to reprise her star-making role as Cher Horowitz in a new Clueless sequel series for Peacock.
According to Variety, the series is currently in development with the streamer, though specific storyline details remain tightly under wraps. What we do know is that Silverstone is attached, the story will continue from the original 1995 film, and the creative team is in place. We also understand this new spin-off is a fresh take, distinct from the version Peacock had planned back in 2020.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, best known for co-creating the original Gossip Girl series and executive producing its reboot, are set to write alongside Jordan Weiss. All three will executive produce, along with Amy Heckerling—writer and director of the original Clueless—and Robert Lawrence, the film's original producer. Production will be handled by CBS Studios and Universal Television.
This is certainly not the first television adaptation of the 1995 hit comedy. Following the film's box office success, a TV series based on the movie aired on ABC and UPN between 1996 and 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard, rather than Silverstone, as the lead.
Silverstone recently returned to her Clueless character in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten, showing she's more than ready to dive back into Cher's legendary wardrobe—and honestly, we fully support that.
