In 2022, Sony revolutionized PlayStation Plus, ushering in a new era for the service. Now, players choose from three tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Essential is the entry point, granting online multiplayer access for most games and offering a selection of free monthly titles. However, for a deeper dive into PS Plus horror games, Extra and Premium tiers are necessary.
The Extra tier boasts a library of hundreds of PS5 and PS4 games, consistently expanding with approximately 15 new additions monthly. Premium builds upon this, including all Extra titles plus a vast collection of classic PS3, PS2, PS1, and PSP games. Sony's service covers most genres, ensuring a diverse selection to satisfy various tastes. This includes a solid horror lineup, with some of the scariest PS Plus games ranking among the service's best offerings.
Updated January 5, 2025 by Mark Sammut: The December 2024 PS Plus Extra and Premium lineup lacked new horror titles, leaving fans to rely on the existing catalog. Furthermore, Resident Evil 2 will depart the service on January 21, 2025, removing a top-tier horror option. Fortunately, its campaigns are manageable, allowing completion before removal. Resident Evil 3 remains available.
With no new additions, a new section highlighting alternative PS Plus games appealing to horror fans has been added.
