Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has announced the cancellation of the game's physical release for Switch and PS4 in Europe. The publisher cited technical challenges related to multilingual European localization as the reason for this decision.
Omori's European Physical Release Cancelled
A String of Postponements
Meridiem Games' Twitter (X) announcement revealed the cancellation, stating that unforeseen technical difficulties with the game's localization across multiple European languages forced the decision. While the publisher offered no further details regarding these issues, fans have expressed significant disappointment.
The game's European physical release faced repeated delays. Initially slated for March 2023, it was pushed back to December 2023, then to March 2024, and finally to January 2025. Pre-orders through retailers like Amazon were subsequently canceled. This series of setbacks ultimately led to the cancellation.
This news is particularly frustrating for European fans, as the physical release would have been the first opportunity to officially play Omori in Spanish and other local languages. While importing a US copy remains an option, the cancellation leaves many without access to a physical version in their native language.
Omori, an RPG following Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic event, blends reality and dreamscapes. The game launched on PC in December 2020 and later expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox version was removed due to an unrelated incident involving an older, inappropriate T-shirt design sold by the developer, OMOCAT, in 2013.
